Ojos del Salado trekk 10 dyas tour

Day 1 Copiapó- Valle Chico (3.300m/10.700ft)

Reception at the bus station or airport in Copiapó and take part on get-together meeting. Drive onwards the Andes stopping at Valle Chico for overnight. (L-,D)

Day 2 Valle Chico- Laguna Santa Rosa (3.800m/12.300ft)

Drive to Laguna Santa Rosa(150km from Copiapó) at 3.500m/11.500 ft. where we will set up camp. This green crystalline lagoon is full of flamingoes and wild ducks who find refuge in this oasis with a splendid view over the Maricunga Saltflat (L-,D);

Day 3 Laguna Santa Rosa- Laguna Verde (4.500m/14.600ft)

Drive 40km to the Border Station of San Francisco and continue other 95km by the side of the impressive Maricunga Saltflat. The road virtually surrounds the foot of Volcán Copiapó(6.080m) and ends at the breathtaking Negro Francisco lagoon(3.700m). This 3.000há lagoon lies in the basin formed after the volcano breaks the salflat. The lagoon is crowded by andean birds including: pink flamingoes, wild goose, Taguas, and others. Also frequents herds of Guanacos and Vicuñas are oftenly seen. Other 80km driving on the barren Piedra Pomez plateu will take us to Laguna Verde placed on a silent and breathtaking scenery. Set Base Camp by a springsfield (B,L-,D);

Day 4 Laguna Verde (4.500m/14.600ft)

Trek around the area for acclimatization at 4.500m/14.600ft (B,L-,D);

Day 5 Laguna Verde-Camp1 (5.150m/17.000ft)

Drive by 4x4 from Laguna Verde and set Camp1 by the old Universidad de Atacama Refuge (B,L-,D);

Day 6 Camp 1- Camp2- Camp1 (5.700m/18.500ft)

Carry some equipment from Camp1 to Camp2 and return to Camp1 for overnight (B,L-,D);

Day 7 Camp1- Camp2 (5.700m/18.500ft)

Hike up to Camp2 for overnight (B,L-,D);

  Day 8-9 Camp2- Summit- Camp1 (6.893m/22.600ft);

Climb up to the summit of the Ojos del Salado in about 7 to 8 hours and then back to Camp 1 for overnight. There is an extra day to back up climate and physical unseen (B,L-,D);

  Day 10 Camp1- Copiapó

Drive back to Copiapó on time to catch the flight or the night bus back to Santiago (B,L).
